Artist Statement of Art Hub Liwa
First came camels from behind the dune. Like
silent ghosts, they walked freely beside the road. We were in the main road but
in the desert. In the car Mr. Ahmed played rhythmic Arabic music which
mesmerizing melody echoes still in my head even though it is already a years ago.
I spent one of the most memorable night of my
life in the Empty Quarter, Liwa. Coffee break in the darkness of the night in
the desert, where the sand storm arose. The experience was unforgettable. Sand
Storm was like a hot response in my home country´s snow storm. It felt safe. I
wrapped myself in clothes, and I felt I was in the middle of the universe.
Later in the night in Liwa Art Hub sand storm
hit tee shots of places, the experience was exotic and unique. In the morning,
Mr. Ahmed drove us to an unforgettable breakfast in the desert, in the middle
of nowhere. Sunrise in the sand horizon, the desert silence, the sand in bare
soles of the feet. Here was the presence
of universal silence and space.
Visit in Liwa influenced my art. It affected
me. Silence. Space. Camels. Nature. Originality and persistence. As Mr. Ahmed
said, Liwa desert represent continuity and stability. Gone up ground cities are
fine but still only human created, artificial environments.
A purifying and inspiring experience. Thank
you!
